Spell Checking for Search Engine Optimisation

18th June 2008

By Anthony Flower - Managing Director

How important is it to spell check your web site?

Obviously having a web site without any spelling mistakes is advantageous, as it provides both an easier read and a far more professional look and feel, but does it have other advantages?

Recent evidence has shown that sites with fewer spelling mistakes rank better in Google than similar sites filled with errors. As Google strives to display the best possible search results through thousands of computational decisions, it is looking increasingly likely that spelling and grammar are becoming one of those factors used in deciding just how high up we can get.

The next question is obvious, how do we make sure that our sites are free of spelling errors? The first choice for many Webmasters out there has been to paste their content, page by page, into Microsoft Word or another word processor and let it's built in spell checker do the work. Although this is a perfectly acceptable method it is annoying and time consuming.

The method that we are recommending is an on-line web site spell checker that will check your entire site for you and email a report on potential miss-spellings. The site is called TextTrust.
